Cultura emprendedora

Teacher: The Unit 5 question is, “What does it mean to be part of a family?” What do you think, Yuna? What does it mean to you?

Yuna: I always have my family. I can rely on them.

Teacher: OK, good. What else? How about you, Marcus? What does it mean to be part of a family?

Marcus: What Yuna said—I can rely on them, but also they always can rely on me. My family always has to come first.

Teacher: Do you agree with that, Sophy? Your family has to come first?

Sophy: Yes, I think that’s true. Maybe I want to go out with my friends or something, but if my family needs me, then they can count on me. Sometimes it’s difficult, but being part of a family means you’re not alone.

Teacher: What do you think, Felix? What does it mean to be part of a family?

Felix: I agree with what everyone says, but for some people their friends are their family. Sometimes you don’t have a good relationship with your parents and siblings. Instead, you create good relationships with other people. I don’t think your family has to be the people you’re related to.

Unit 5, Listening 1, Activities A, D, and E Page 80, 81 Let’s Find a New Apartment

Atifa: Wow, you guys look tired!

Karen: We are tired! We looked at six apartments today!

Lisa: Looking at apartments all day is a lot of work!

Atifa: Did you like any of the places?

Lisa: Yeah, I liked three of them—the one on First Street, the one next to the beach, and the one downtown.

Karen: Great. Those are the ones that I liked, too.

Atifa: Which one did you like the best?

Lisa: I think the apartment on First Street was my favorite. It’s in a great location, and it’s really big.

Karen: That’s true. It’s across the street from school. The rent is expensive, though.

Lisa: Yeah, but it has three big bedrooms. We can get another roommate.

Karen: Hmm, maybe. But the bathroom is really small.

Atifa: Which was your favorite, Karen?

Karen: I really liked the apartment near the beach. It’s in a beautiful building, and the neighbors seem nice.

Atifa: The beach is far from campus.

Lisa: Yes, but there’s a lot of public transportation. It takes 15 minutes to get to campus on the bus.

Karen: The rent is really cheap, too.

Atifa: Then it sounds perfect!

Lisa: Well, there’s one big problem with that one. It’s a studio1. I really want my own bedroom.

Karen: Yeah, me too.

Atifa: A studio isn’t very private. How about the apartment downtown?

Lisa: That one has two bedrooms. The rooms are small, but they’re comfortable.

Karen: That apartment was nice. The rent is cheap, and it’s close to a lot of shops and restaurants.

Lisa: That’s true. But it’s really noisy.

Karen: You’re right. You can hear all the noises from the street in that apartment. Also, it’s far from campus.

Lisa: Yeah, but it’s close to public transportation.

Atifa: Why don’t you just live in the dormitory2 again next year?

Karen: The dorms are fun, but I want a private room.

Lisa: Me too. But I don’t know which apartment to choose!
